Release Date: April 18, 2000

Figure 8 was primarily a Dreamworks release but the US vinyl pressing was put out by Bong Load Records. It's a double LP and on 180g vinyl. It comes with a one sided glossy sheet with lyrics and credits. According to the insert, photos are by Autumn deWilde. Art direction and design is by Autumn deWilde and Dale Smith. USA LP [Plain plain127; 180g black vinyl 2008 reissue]
Figure 8 was reissued on vinyl in the US for the first time since its original release in 2008 by Plain Recordings. There is a colored vinyl pressing (see entry below) and this black vinyl pressing. It's on 180g vinyl. The labels on the records are different than the original pressing in that they have pictures of Elliott and the swirly lines from the wall on the cover (see photos below). Barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:

USA LP [Plain plain127; red and blue colored vinyl 2008 reissue]
Figure 8 was reissued on vinyl in the US for the first time since its original release in 2008 by Plain Recordings. There is a black vinyl pressing (see entry above) and this colored vinyl pressing. This pressing was limited to 500 copies and has a sticker on the back shrinkwrap that shows the number of each copy. Supposedly (as stated on Discogs), there are also unnumbered copies of this pressing as well. The first record is red and the second record is blue. It comes with the same glossy insert with lyrics that the original pressings on Bong Load came with. Also, the record labels are the same as the other Plain reissue (with pictures of Elliott, different than the original pressing's labels). Some of the blue sections of the wall behind Elliott seem to be a much lighter shade of blue on this pressing than on the original Bong Load pressing. Other than that, the art is basically the same other than record label info and the placement of text on the spines being in different places. Barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:

USA LP [Plain plain127; 180g 2012 reissue]
According to the Discogs listing, Plain reissued yet another 180g vinyl pressing of Figure 8 in 2012. According to Discogs, the back cover states "℗2000 & ©2012 Geffen Records. Manufactured by Universal Music Enterprises, a Division of UMG Recordings". Not much other info or photos specific to this pressing are available online. Barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:

USA LP [Bong Load BL48; 180g coke bottle swirl vinyl 2016 reissue]
This pressing was the first time Figure 8 was released by Bong Load since the original 2000 pressing. The vinyl is coke bottle swirl in color and 180g. I believe that this is the only vinyl pressing of Figure 8 that has the full album on just one record. All other pressing that I'm aware of are double albums. It's a numbered pressing, limited to 2,016 copies. The back cover has the number 2,016 printed in white but the particular number of each copy is silver embossed on the back cover. Unlike the original Bong Load pressing, this one has no barcode at all. It comes with an 11"x11" insert and the inner sleeves are custom Bong Load sleeves. The spine uses the same fonts as the original but the placement of the catalog number and Elliott's name and album title are slightly different. Elliott's name and the album title on the spine are printed slightly larger on this pressing than the original also. Also, Bong Load's logo on the back cover adds a new part stating that they've been around for 25 years. Matrix info according to Discogs:

USA LP [Geffen B0026099-01; white and clear vinyl reissue 2017]
Geffen reissued Figure 8 on both black vinyl and this colored vinyl edition in 2017. This one has the first record on clear vinyl and the second record on white vinyl. Discogs states that it's limited to 500 copies but there is no numbering on the packaging. Like the Plain Recordings reissues, the blue parts of the wall behind Elliott look much fainter in places than the Bong Load pressings. This pressing comes with the standard lyric sheet insert. Most everything else about the packaging is the same as other pressings other than record label logos, etc. Barcode according to Discogs is 0255728644.
USA LP [Geffen B0026099-01; black vinyl reissue 2017]
Geffen reissued Figure 8 on both colored vinyl (see entry above) and this black vinyl edition in 2017. There is very little info on Discogs for this listing and no photos specific to this pressing but everything is presumably the same as the entry above other than the vinyl being black in this case. Barcode according to Discogs is 602557286441.
USA CD [Dreamworks 0044-50225-2]
The original US CD pressing of Figure 8 comes in a digipak. The front and back artwork are identical to the LP artwork other than record label and copyright info being different. The Dreamworks logo and copyright info on this CD are along the left side of the back cover rather than along the bottom as on all LP pressings. It comes with a 12 page booklet that has lyrics and credits. There is a second US pressing listed on Discogs with the same catalog number but with year listed as "unknown". It seems to only differ from this pressing in matrix info so it doesn't have a separate entry on this page. For this current entry, barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:
- Barcode (Scan): 600445022522

USA CD BMG Club Edition [Dreamworks 0044-50225-2/D168408]
This US CD pressing is from the BMG Direct music club, where you'd get a bunch of CD's for one cent when you agreed to buy a certain amount of CD's later on at the regular price that the club set. This is mostly the same as the regular US CD listed above. However, there are a few minor differences. Under the barcode on back, instead of the normal barcode numbers, it says "D168408 Mfd. for BMG Direct". This number (D168408) is also printed on the back page of the booklet for this pressing. Also, the inner circle part of the CD is white here while it's clear on the regular pressing. That inner circle of the CD has the same numbers/info printed on the top part as the regular pressing. However, the pressing details on the bottom part of this circle are different than the regular pressing and include the D168408 digits.

USA Promo CD [Dreamworks 15783]
This is one of three very similar US promo CD's for Figure 8 that came in jewel cases. This promo CD for Figure 8 does not have the typical album artwork. It has the usual front design for a Dreamworks promo. It has the Dreamworks label near the top and then the basic album info, followed by a section stating that it's an advance CD, promotional copy, and not for sale. It is especially similar to the listing below, catalog number 15741, however there are some differences. The most glaring difference is that this one correctly lists song 14 as "I Better Be Quiet Now" while the promo below lists it as "Better Be Quiet Now" on the front insert. There are other minor formatting/listing differences on the front cover and CD face if you look closely (such as the way "The Roost" is lined up under "In the Lost and Found"). Please see the photos to compare. The back is plain other than the info at the the bottom for GKS, the company that made the CD. The CD face has the basic album information, the Dreamworks logo, and states that it's an advance CD and for promotional use only.

USA Promo CD [Dreamworks no catalog number in jewel case]
This is the third of three similar but slightly different US promo CD's that came in jewel cases. Please see the two entries above for catalog numbers 15783 and 15741. This one is a bit easier to tell apart from the other two since the differences are more obvious. There is no catalog number listed on any of the packaging that I see. The front insert doesn't have the dark blue strip across the bottom and the Dreamworks logo is smaller and lower down. The song titles are also formatted differently, being centered instead of left justified. Unlike the two promo CD listed above, this one does have information about the album on the back insert. Basically the same basic album information that's on the front. This time, the dark blue strip on the bottom appears on this back insert rather than the front insert. Again, please see photos for the differences.
USA Promo CD [Dreamworks no catalog number in wallet sleeve/paper sleeve]
I assume this promo CD is from the US but am not sure. It doesn't have a catalog number or a country listed anywhere on it. It comes in a plastic wallet sleeve with an inner paper sleeve that folds open. Only the front of the paper sleeve has something on it, the back and inner pages are blank. The front lists Elliott's name, the album title, and the songs. At the bottom, it says that it's a promo and not for resale. It also says "27.01.00". I'm not sure if this is a date (January 27, 2000). That wasn't the actual release date of the album, though. If this is a date, then perhaps it's not a US promo due to that date format. If anyone knows anything else, please let me know but I'll leave it here in the US section for now.
USA Promo CD [Dreamworks DRMF-13510-2]
In addition to the standard Dreamworks promo CD (see entry above), the label also put out this second promo CD in the US. It does have art this time but it's completely different artwork from the typical album. It has an orange cover with a drawing of a person on it. The catalog number is in the bottom right corner. The back cover doesn't state who the drawing is by but mentions art direction by Mike Mills. The rest of the back is basic album info and credits printed in white with the orange background. The back also states that it's an advance CD, for promotion only, and not for sale. The CD itself is white with orange text.
3 Tracks From the Album Figure 8 Promo CD [Catalog number Elliott Promo-1]
The Discogs entry for this CD has very little information. Just a picture of the CD face. I am assuming it's a US promo CD but I'm not sure. See photo below to see the writing on the CD (release date, songs, etc.). It says Elliott Promo-1 at the bottom of the CD. The songs are Son of Sam, Junk Bond Trader, and Happiness/The Gondola Man. But Junk Bond Trader is listed as Junk Bond Trade. The Discogs entry says that's it's housed in a generic jewel case (no front or back inserts presumably).
USA Cassette [Dreamworks 0044-50225-4]
This appears to be the only pressing of Figure 8 on cassette other than the Indonesian cassette that may not be a legit release. The cover photo is the same as the LP and CD but is severely cropped to make it fit the cassette format. None of the swirls over his head show up at all. The inside of the packaging has the hand image that is on the inside of CD digipaks. It also folds out and shows the photo that is on the back of CD and LP versions. Lyrics and the typical credits are also inside the packaging. Barcode according to Discogs is 600445022546.

Australasia CD [Dreamworks 450 225-2; jewel case]
Figure 8 looks was released in the Australasia region in 2000 in both digipak (see entry below) and this jewel case version. There's only a few major differences from the typical US CD pressing. First, it's in a jewel case instead of a digipak. Because of this, the booklet also serves as the cover art. So the booklet does not have just the curved stripe with Elliott's name and the album title on the front as digipak booklets do, but it's the full cover art on the front of the booklet. Other than that, the booklet is mostly the same except the thank you's that are normally on the back page are on the next to last page here. The very back page of this booklet has the photo with a hand pointing a finger and a few credits. Barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:

Australasia CD [Dreamworks 450 225-2 (04); digipak]
Figure 8 was released in the Australasia region in 2000 in both jewel case (see entry above) and this digipak version. The catalog number has an extra "(04)" listed at the end. Unlike most digipak releases of Figure 8, the front part of the digipak doesn't have a little slot to hold the booklet, the booklet is just loose (at least that's how mine looks. Mine looks like you can sort of separate the cardboard and make a slit but that it's not really supposed to be done, the cardboard there is quite thin and really stuck together, not like a slit). Besides that, no major differences from most other digipak versions other than typical country/catalog number stuff. Barcode/matrix info according to Discogs:
- Barcode: 6 00445 02252 2

-----------------------------------------------------
Canada CD [Dreamworks 0044-50225-2; digipak]
This CD pressing of Figure 8 from Canada is practically identical to the US digipak CD other than the expected differences, particularly the places that it mentions it being from Canada. It has the typical booklet. The one minor difference is that the front part of the digipak opens on the right side for the booklet to slide in. The US pressings I’ve seen and the ones from a few other countries all open on the opposite side than this one does. There is also a Canada CD that is in a jewel case (see entry below). Barcode on Discogs is listed as 6 0044-50225-2 2.
Canada CD [Dreamworks 0044-50225-2; jewel case]
Besides the digipak version of the Canada CD in the entry above, there was also a jewel case CD version released in Canada. Like other jewel case versions from different countries, the main interesting difference is the cover page of the booklet. Because it's in a jewel case with a clear front, the booklet has the actual album cover on the front page instead of the typical front page of digipak version booklets that show his name and the album title but no photo of Elliott.

Europe LP [Geffen 533 857-8; 2013 reissue]
This reissue of Figure 8 in Europe was part of the Back to Black vinyl series on Geffen and Universal that was celebrating the anniversary of the LP. Europe LP [Geffen 533 857-8; 2013 reissue test pressing]
This is the two-record test pressing from the reissue of Figure 8 in Europe that was part of the Back to Black vinyl series on Geffen and Universal. Looking at the photo, the records probably came in plain white sleeves although occasionally test pressings can come in the normal record sleeve. The photo below was taken from an ebay listing by seller "rareusedandnewgroup". I don't have any other information on this test pressing.

Europe LP [Geffen/Universal 00602557286441; 180g vinyl 2017 reissue]
It appears that Geffen/Universal reissued Figure 8 again on 180g vinyl in 2017. The labels on the records are the photos used on the front and back of the record (see photos below). It comes with a lyric insert and download card. It also comes with a sticker on front mentioning that it's 180g vinyl and that it's part of the Back to Black series. Europe CD [Dreamworks 450 225-2; jewel case]
Figure 8 appears to have been originally released in Europe in both a digipak (see entry below) and this jewel case pressing. Because it’s a jewel case, the booklet also serves as the cover art. Therefore the front of the booklet is actually the photo of Elliott rather than the artwork that is on the front of the booklet for digipak versions. There are multiple variants listed on Discogs for this pressing as far as matrix numbers go. There are also three additional listings on Discogs with year "unknown" but that are also Europe editions of the CD and with this same catalog number. They only appear to differ from this listing in matrix info.

Figure 8 appears to have been originally released in Europe in both a jewel case (see entry above) and this digipak pressing. 3 Titres Inedits France Promo CD [Dreamworks/Universal/Polydor 4660]
This promo CD was released in France. It came with some French copies of the Figure 8 CD. There is actually no listing on Discogs of a specific French pressing for Figure 8 so it's likely that the European pressing of Figure 8 was paired and sold with this CD in France. It comes in a cardboard sleeve and has a unique cover (see photo below). The CD face has both English and French writing around the border where legal/copyright info is listed. It contains the songs I Can't Answer You Anymore, Pretty Mary K (alternate version), and Happiness (acoustic). Matrix info according to Discogs:

Germany Promo CD [Motor Music no catalog number]
This German promo CD comes in a cardboard sleeve and has an interesting cover. It has a big number 8 with the album title written within the bottom circle of the 8. And it has Elliott's name written really big right across the 8 (see photo). At the bottom of the cover, it says "not finished artwork!" and "for promotional use only!". The back cover has Elliott's name really big at the top and Figure 8 written right below it as well as a listing of the songs. It states that it's for promotional use and not for sale. The record label, Motor Music, is listed as a division of Universal Music. There is no listing on Discogs for a commercially released German CD. Perhaps there was not a specific German release and the general European release of the CD was sold in Germany but had this CD to promote it.

Snippets From the New Album Figure 8 German Promo CD [Motor Music ELLIOTT1]
This is a rather unique promo CD that was released in Germany. It comes in a cardboard sleeve. It has the front art of a typical Figure 8 release but has an oval added to it that says "snippets from the new album Figure 8 out April, 25th" as well as a bit of German writing in the top right corner. The back cover says "not for sale!" near the top, a listing of the songs and several record label logos includind, Moto Music which is a subsidiary of Universal. The songs on this promo are Son of Sam, Everything Reminds Me of Her, Everything Means Nothing to Me, LA, and Happiness. Matrix info according to Discogs:

Indonesia cassette [Dreamworks 450 225-4]
This is one of very few cassette pressings of Figure 8 (maybe only this and the US pressing). There is no mention on Discogs about this being anything other than an official release. However, I thought I remembered reading/hearing about it possibly not being a legit release but any more info on that would be appreciated. It comes in a standard cassette case. The front shrinkwrap has a sticker that says "Featuring radio Hit Single Son of Sam". The spine features a very unusual font for Elliott's name and the album title. Part of the packaging also says "Manufactured in Indonesia for Indonesia Market Only" (I don't have other details about the rest of the packaging or the cassette itself as mine is sealed and I didn't open it so I can keep the sticker on the front intact). Barcode according to Discogs is 6 00445 02254 6.

Japan CD [Dreamworks MVCA-24043; jewel case]
Figure 8 appears to have been released on CD in Japan in both digipak (see entry below) and this jewel case version. It adds the extra tracks Because and Figure 8. It comes with an obi, typical twelve page booklet and a twelve page booklet featuring liner notes and lyrics in Japanese. While the Japanese booklet looks to be the same as in the digipak Japanese pressing, the English language booklet is very different. Because it’s a jewel case, the booklet also serves as the cover art. Therefore the front of the booklet is actually the photo of Elliott rather than the artwork that is on the front of the booklet for digipak versions. Barcode according to Discogs is 4988067043887.

Japan CD [Dreamworks MVCA-24043; digipak]
Figure 8 appears to have been released on CD in Japan in both jewel case (see entry above) and this digipak version. It adds the extra tracks Because and Figure 8. It comes with an obi, typical twelve page booklet and a twelve page booklet featuring liner notes and lyrics in Japanese. The Japanese booklet does contain some English words like Kill Rock Stars, Roman Candle, etc. on the inside bio area. It also lists all the song titles in both Japanese and English on the front page. The obi is very similar but slightly different from the jewel case version (see photos in that entry and below). As opposed to the US CD, this pressing has some copyright info written around the edge of the CD. This writing is in English. The back artwork is basically the same as the US CD except for the legal/copyright info along the left side, which is mostly in Japanese on this pressing. Barcode according to Discogs is 4988067043887.
Japan CD [Dreamworks UICY-60074; 2009 jewel case reissue]
Figure 8 was reissued on CD in Japan in 2009 on this jewel case version. It has a very different obi than the original Japan CD's and also a new catalog number. Like the older CD's from Japan, it adds the extra tracks Because and Figure 8. It comes with an obi, typical twelve page booklet and a twelve page booklet featuring liner notes and lyrics in Japanese. The unique Japanese booklet is almost identical to the older Japan CD's other than catalog number and record label information.

Also this promo is not the whole album, but a sampler. It adds the words "Album Sampler" near the bottom of the front artwork. The back cover and the CD itself mention that it's for promotional use only and not for resale. Some copies have a promotional sticker affixed on the back hyping up the album and mentioning an upcoming tour date.
