Elliott Smith played at Umbra Penumbra in Portland, OR on 9/17/94. It is the earliest solo show that has a recording that has surfaced. The show was recorded by Elliott's friend Casey Crynes. In 1996, two of the songs from the show, Some Song and No Name #1, were released on a cassette called Live at Umbra Penumbra that Casey released on his record label Skylash. It also featured songs by other artists. In 2020, Kill Rock Stars released the entire show as an extra disc on the 25th anniversary release of the self-titled album. This release also included a coffee table book featuring photos by JJ Gonson. More details on that release can be found on its own entry on this timeline in 2020.
